Outdoor pool in early stage of development
A rendering of what a new outdoor pool area could look like has been developed based on feedback from the Community Center steering committee and residents who participated in several public meetings during the latter part of 2017.
The expansion project is still in its initial phases, but an outdoor aquatic center is the major part of phase II expansion planned for the Community Center, which opened in October 2016.
“Things take so long to realize,” City Manager Molly McGovern said. “We knew this was a natural next step. The Community Center has been so successful. The outdoor pool was such a high priority in the early planning. It was a struggle to see what had to get cut out the firsts go around. We obviously didn’t know what membership would be.”
The Community Center now has more than 5,000 members. The building also houses the Senior Center and offices for the Parks & Recreation Department.
Community Center Director Jesse Hall said that, in addition to the long-anticipated outdoor pool, there are also initial plans to add a sauna to the facility. Additional parking and an outdoor entrance to the new pool to accommodate the increased usage is also in the works.
