Preservation Month People Saving PlacesMay is National Preservation Month, celebrating the diverse and unique heritage of our country’s cities and states. This years theme is People Saving Places. Excelsior Springs is fortunate to have an almost intact historic Main Street, and Pictured below are the award winners for the 2023 Excelsior Springs Historic Preservation awards presented during May Historic Preservation Month.

Commercial Renovation

The building at 415 S. Thompson Ave. was transformed into a wine bar and event center. Major improvements were made to both the exterior and the interior of the building, which had been used for years as storage for a local business owner

Atlas Saloon Brewery Historic Preservation Award

Commercial Renovation

The Atlas Saloon Brewery is a non-contributing building in the Hall of Waters Historic District. The building suffered from the loss of its second story due to a fire. A recent paint lift was given to the building, replicating its original brick facade.

Residential Renovation

Roger Smith was awarded a historic preservation award for the exterior work that he did on his home, located at 420 Concourse Ave.

Elms Blvd. after restoration

Investor Renovation

The historic home of Dr. Gabol was restored by local renovator Ron Pruitt. Extensive work was required inside and outside of this house that has stood vacant for over 10 years.
