Preservation Awards Ceremony"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>On Wednesday May 12, the City of Excelsior Springs\u2019 Historic Preservation Commission presented Preservation awards to three property owners for improvements made on their properties.&nbsp; May is Preservation month, and the commission wished to thank owners of historic properties for their work in preservation.<\/p>\n<p><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"alignright wp-image-792 size-full\" src=\"https:\/\/cityofesmo.com\/preservation\/wp-content\/uploads\/2021\/05\/manley-award.jpg\" alt=\"\" width=\"500\" height=\"375\" srcset=\"https:\/\/cityofesmo.com\/preservation\/wp-content\/uploads\/2021\/05\/manley-award.jpg 500w, https:\/\/cityofesmo.com\/preservation\/wp-content\/uploads\/2021\/05\/manley-award-300x225.jpg 300w\" sizes=\"auto, (max-width: 500px) 100vw, 500px\" \/>The award for Preservation of an Investment Property was presented to <strong>Kenny Manley<\/strong> for his work on 515 Benton Ave.&nbsp; Mr. Manley restored the two-story c. 1900 home by replacing the roof and adding gutters, restoring the front porch and railing, replacing an overhang over the back porch, replacing the front door, and painting the entire structure before selling the home.&nbsp; \u201cI enjoyed learning the history of the house,\u201d Mr. Manley stated.&nbsp; \u201cIt had originally been owned by a couple who had a grocery store where Broadway Bar and Grill is.\u201d<\/p>\n\n\n<div class=\"wp-block-columns Property was presented to <strong>Larry and Lisa Krause<\/strong> for exterior work and a new paint scheme at 403 Concourse Ave. The house had affectionately been referred to as the blueberry house until Mr. and Mrs. Krause chose to paint it yellow, thus it has become the sunshine house.<\/p>\n<p>Mr. and Mrs. Krause are continuing with restoration work on the interior of the home.<br><img Preservation Award for a Commercial Property for their restoration of 120 E. Broadway St.&nbsp; This building dates back to approximately 1910 and was restored to accommodate a retail space on the first floor and a residential space on the second floor.&nbsp; The building had the lead paint removed from the exterior and was repainted Needlepoint Navy.&nbsp; Mr. and Mrs. Eales were also approved to receive a 353 tax abatement for improving this property.<\/p>\n\n\n<div class=\"wp-block-columns is-layout-flex wp-container-core-columns-is-layout-9d6595d7 wp-block-columns-is-layout-flex\">\n<div class=\"wp-block-column is-layout-flow wp-block-column-is-layout-flow\">\n<p><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"alignnone wp-image-808 size-full\" src=\"https:\/\/cityofesmo.com\/preservation\/wp-content\/uploads\/2021\/05\/eales-before.jpg\" alt=\"\" width=\"400\" height=\"320\" srcset=\"https:\/\/cityofesmo.com\/preservation\/wp-content\/uploads\/2021\/05\/eales-before.jpg 400w, https:\/\/cityofesmo.com\/preservation\/wp-content\/uploads\/2021\/05\/eales-before-300x240.jpg 300w\" sizes=\"auto, (max-width: 400px) 100vw, 400px\" \/><br>\n120 E.
