City Council

In December 1921, voters in the City of Excelsior Springs adopted the City Manager form of government, becoming the first city in the State of Missouri to formally adopt this style of governing. The City Council is made up of five members, elected at large, for terms of three years. The mayor is elected for a one-year term from the five body council. Meetings are held the first and third Monday of each month in the council chambers of city hall, Hall of Waters building, 201 E. Broadway, and are convened at 6:00 p.m.

Highlights from last nights City Council Meeting included certification of election results and election of the mayor and mayor pro tem. Mayor and mayor pro tem are voted on by the five Council members. The mayor is the ceremonial head of the Council and votes as a Council member. The mayor presides over the City Council meetings and the mayor pro tem performs these duties during the Mayor’s absence. Councilwoman Sonya Morgan was elected mayor and Councilman Reggie St. John was elected mayor pro tem.

The Council approved an iWorq agreement for Community Development, approved a resolution to become a Blue Shield Community and approved liquor licenses.
